Food issues. Weight gain. Strained relationships. Guilt, because you’re not paying enough attention to your loved ones. Financial difficulty. Low energy. Feeling run down. Confused and unfocused. Unclear on next steps.
These are all signs of entrepreneurial burnout. And putting off dealing with them for “someday” – meaning someday when your business is where you need it to be, doesn’t work. In fact, it’s just the opposite.
As entrepreneurial women, we roll a bit differently than most people.
It isn’t enough for us to go to a job, come home, and turn on the TV. In some ways we wish that were the case, because it sounds so much easier, right? Of course, that isn’t necessarily what women who don’t have an entrepreneurial spirit do with their time, but if you’re burnt out, that may be your fantasy alter-ego – the one who packs it all in, gets a job with as little responsibility as possible (because you have to earn a living), and does nothing the rest of the time except binge watch Netflix, because you’re so darn tired right now! But you know you won’t do that. You can’t.
If you’re stuck in that space between feeling like all you do is work and imagining what it would be like to sell all your possessions and drive across the country, then chances are you need some help.
Entrepreneurial burnout is real. It sucks. It can rob you of your time and energy, and especially your joy and freedom. Moreover, it can rob you of your health, finances, relationships, and the career you’re so passionate about and that you KNOW you’re here to do.
Health isn’t just about being free of illness. You can’t assess the quality of your life by whether or not you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or pre-diabetes (although these are definitely warning signs that something’s off kilter). Health is about how you feel, how much energy you have, the quality of your relationships, how you manage stress, finances, and many other factors. You can’t let one part of your life go–not your relationships, your home, and especially not your mental and physical health, thinking you can attend to these later on when your business is thriving. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.
